The Insider is a weekend-long professional development program in Sales, Marketing and Distribution aimed at the next generation of Producers, Screenwriters and Directors.
The tutors for this new course bring a wealth of experience and expertise on subjects that are simply not taught anywhere.
Ian Sands (Exhibition) is the former chairman of distributor Roadshow Films and former head of the distributors' peak body MPDAA. Ian is currently Director of Operations for Reading Cinemas.
Frank Cox (Sales & Distribution) is the co-founder and co-owner of Kino Cinemas and a driving force behind two of Australia’s most successful independent distributors, NewVision and Hopscotch. Through NewVision, Cox imported and marketed over 300 feature films including landmark titles Clerks, Belle Epoque, Ghost Dog and the Three Colours Trilogy. Hopscotch Films has enjoyed tremendous critical and commercial success with titles such as Bowling for Columbine, and most recently Bright Star.
Publicist Annette Smith (Ned & Co Marketing and Publicity) has 20 years experience in film distribution, marketing and publicity including unit publicity for Underbelly, Japanese Story and national publicity for the Alliance Francaise French Film Festival, Lavazza Italian Film Festival and Melbourne International Film Festival.
Bring along your own project in development for industry evaluation. Learn who’s who in the current business of domestic distribution and marketing and international sales agents. What are they looking for? How do you make the approach? What are the pitfalls to look out for?
Prerequisites: Prior production experience essential.

How do I Enrol?
Application for this course includes two stages.
Stage One: Please submit:
a) 1-2 page synopsis of a film project you have completed or in development by email to training@openchannel.org.au
b) Attach to this email a signed copy of the Unsolicited Submissions Agreement
Stage Two: Your concept will be assessed on originality by a panel of Open Channel training/production staff and the tutor. If successful in being offered a place in this course, you will then be requested to complete a short course enrolment form (use course code: MARKET109) to secure your place in the course.
