About Produce IT
OPEN CHANNEL's innovative new Advanced Diploma program OC2 offers students the chance to learn while working on their own independent drama or comedy project for film or TV. Whether working independently or as part of team, this unique blend of training and production support will give your project a kick start.
The Producing Foundation Workshop Produce IT involves completing OPEN CHANNEL’s Producing and Production Management short course, as well as an additional one-day Obtaining Sponsorship seminar. The Workshop also includes three individual mentorship sessions with an experienced Producer.
New Producers will explore the working tools of the independent Feature or TV Series project, including a complete budget and schedule. Experienced Producers will guide you as you seek sponsorship for your project and begin to make your film a reality.
The Produce IT Workshop is designed to advance students’ existing producing skills and their understanding of screen business, as well as the presentation and packaging of films to financiers, funding bodies and networks. Students will acquire the following skills: packaging & financing, budgeting, scheduling, management of cast and crew obligations, film accounting, taxation, insurance and distribution, along with how to go about obtaining sponsorship - and get qualified in the process!
Upon completion of the Produce IT Workshop, students will be encouraged to further develop their projects and participate in the Teaser Production Initiative.
This workshop will:
- provide accredited training for people pursuing a career in film and television producing
- provide skills and knowledge to develop producing skills and knowledge which comply with Australian film & television industry standards
- provide skills and knowledge to independently budget, schedule and obtain sponsorship for short or feature films
- provide mentorship through the process of budgeting, scheduling and obtaining sponsorship for a film
- aim to support students to further develop their projects on completion of the course.
OC2 Advanced Diploma Foundation Program
OC2 is OPEN CHANNEL’s Advanced Diploma of Screen program (CUF60101), developing new independent feature film projects. Participants completing an OC2 Foundation Workshop may apply to the OC2 Extension Program to complete an Advanced Diploma of Screen. The extension program involves working in the capacity of Writer, Director or Producer during the making and marketing of a teaser film for an independent feature project.
OPEN CHANNEL’s innovative OC2 Advanced Diploma Foundation Program offering the chance to learn while working on a real independent drama or comedy project. Whether working independently and wanting to form a creative team, this unique blend of training and production support will give your project the kick start it needs. This initiative supports the making of a teaser to sell an independent feature film project - a model used for the horror film ‘Saw’ which spawned a multi-million dollar franchise.

Course Structure
The OC2 Producing Foundation Workshop – Produce IT is part time over 5 months, including completion of the following components:
- Producing and Production Management (Short course)
- Obtaining Sponsorship Seminar (Show Me the Money – 28 June)
- 3 Production Advisory Sessions
- 3 hour RPL Assessment Interview
Stage One requires students to complete the Producing and Production Management short course and the Show Me the Money – Obtaining Sponsorship Seminar.
Stage Two of the Workshop entails completion of the RPL kit, supported by the Accredited Training Coordinator and 3 production advisory sessions with a mentor.
Stage Three is the assessment of the RPL kit and interview with the Accredited Training Coordinator and an independent producer.
Upon completion of the Produce It workshop, students will be guided to further develop their projects and participate in the OC2 Extension Program - Teaser Production Initiative.
Units
Produce IT Foundation Workshop utilises four units from the Advanced Diploma of Screen (CUF60101). Selected from the Film, Television, Radio & Multimedia Industry Package CUF01 and endorsed by the National Training Quality Committee 2004.
Units include:
CUEFIN1A Develop a Budget
This unit refers to the preparation of the budget and reports related to the financing and financial management of a project/operation within the cultural industries.
- Plan the budget
- Develop and finalise budget
- Prepare reports for key personnel
- Prepare budget for presentation
CUFPOP03A Compile a Production Schedule
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan and compile a production schedule which identifies all required resources and timelines for the completion of all stages of a production within the cultural industries.

- Agree to and distribute the production schedule
CUSGEN05A Make Presentations
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to make effective presentations for many different purposes using a range of media.

CUEFIN3B Obtain Sponsorship
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to obtain and manage sponsorship for an activity, event or organisation. As such the unit may focus on 'one-off' sponsorship arrangements or ongoing activities within an organisation. The unit requires a sound knowledge of sponsorship opportunities and protocols in a given industry context plus a range of communication, negotiation and management skills.

Assessment
Students will be required to provide evidence, within duration of the workshop that demonstrates a high level of skills as a Producer, including preparation of:
- a full budget
- schedule
- funding application and sponsorship agreement for a short film or teaser project
Entry Requirements
This workshop is open to all Australian residents 18 years and over. Applicants must have completed a Certificate III in Screen qualification or have equivalent filmmaking experience.
All applicants are interviewed.
Once an application form is completed and a deposit is paid an interview time will be given. The interview is an opportunity to clarify any issues about Accredited Training at OPEN CHANNEL and to determine applicants’ suitability for enrolment.

The course fee for the 2008 Produce IT Foundation Workshop is:
$890 (Inclusive of all courses, seminars and assessment).
The full course fee is payable on enrollment to secure an interview, and fully refundable if you are not selected for the course.
